Be FAST

I want to share an update on Chuck’s health. Saturday night he had a stroke. He had a sudden onset of slurred speech and left sided weakness/paralysis. A trip to the hospital, a clot buster drug and a flight to Ruby in Morgantown ensued.

The doctors have been monitoring him closely. They’ve given us encouraging news, the effects are minimal, and he’s expected to recover well. The stroke HAS affected his FTD symptoms in that he’s a bit more confused, but hopefully this returns to baseline. He’s showing his usual spirit, and those of you who know Chuck know he can often be funny and quick with a one-liner! He’s delivered some zingers and has had the Neuro team laughing.

This experience has been another reminder to take things one day at a time, to cherish the moments we have. We’re making adjustments and making sure he has the support he needs. I’m glad his sense of humor is still intact, and he keeps us smiling through the ups and downs.

For those I’ve already communicated with, thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and support. It means the world to us. Our family and friends are incredibly supportive and we are grateful.

Here’s to more days of laughter!

BE FAST when you see the signs of a stroke.

Balance - sudden loss of coordination?

Eyes - change in vision?

Face droop - does one side of the face droop? Ask for a smile, is it uneven?

Arm weakness - is one arm or hand weak or drift downward?

Speech difficulty - slurred or garbled?

Time to call 911 - check the time so you can report when symptoms first appear. Time is of the essence in receiving life saving treatments.
